I used to be one of those people who told the same thing.
It's just a plain excuse to make yourself feeling better.
As from my experience, I'd prefer to be attached.
I love the feeling of having someone to love and care about me.
I missed those sweet moments I used to spend with her(s).

I'm stepping into the 4th year of being single.

I also went to this tarot reading.
The Burmese tarot reader told me:
"You'll find your someone in year 2012,
the relationships you're having in this period of time are just temperamental."
I don't totally trust this kinda prediction, somehow it seems real.
